Performs technical and administrative work in the Department of Emergency Services overseeing acquisition, implementation and on-going effectiveness of technology systems.
An employee in this class installs, maintains, updates, and troubleshoots technology equipment in the Department including 911 system hardware, software, radios, networks, and related equipment. The employee performs tasks as needed and consults with County Information Technology staff and vendor support staff as needed. Work involves broad involvement with technology including the evaluation, selection, acquisition, installation and maintenance of computers, radios, telephones, mobile data computers, and communications equipment. Work also includes participation in developing short term and long range plans for electronics equipment and systems and IT needs. Work includes personnel training, establishing policies and procedures, and coordination with a variety of departments and agencies served. The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in dealing with personnel matters, coordinating with law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue and other agencies served and in responding to emergency communication situations. Work involves stress and requires decisiveness and judgment in setting priorities in emergency conditions. Work is performed under supervision of the Communications Manager and is reviewed through conferences and review of records for accuracy of response and community acceptance. Employee may be subject to be called back to work after normal business hours to provide back-up support/coordination as needed by the 911 Manager or the Emergency Management Coordinator. Employee may be assigned to work in the County’s Emergency Operations Center or the Mobil Emergency Operation Center as the direction of the Department’s Director or the 911 Manager during activations. Employee will keep the EOC/MEOC/911 communication/technology equipment at a readiness level at all times.
