Location: Person County NC (Roxboro, NC).  Person County borders the Virginia State Line at Halifax County, VA to the north and Durham and Orange County NC to the south.

General Statement of Duties

Plans, organizes, and supervises the telecommunications operations for the County.

An employee in this class supervises a staff providing twenty-four hour 911 emergency communications, develops short term and long range plans for electronics equipment and systems needs for the County, and supervises the installation, maintenance and use of various radios, alarms, telephones, computers, and other electronic equipment for the purpose of emergency telecommunications. Work includes personnel management and training, establishing policies and procedures, and coordination with a broad variety of agencies served and vendors. Employee will be on call as needed and will provide back-up support/coordination for emergency management.     The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in dealing with personnel matters, coordinating with law enforcement, rescue, and fire jurisdictions, and responding to emergency situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Emergency Services Director and is reviewed through conferences and review of records for accuracy and timeliness of response.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college with a two year degree in communications, public safety or related field and extensive experience in a 911 communications center; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 3-5 years of supervisory experience; 2-4 years of experience may be considered, depending upon the level.  Project management experience preferred but not required.

 

 

Special Requirements/Qualifications

Certification by the State of North Carolina for Division of Criminal Information (DCI) operations.

Valid driver’s license.

Certification as Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).

Certification as NC Public Safety Telecomunicator I

Certification by FEMA/EMI; COM-L, COM-T, ICS 100,200,300,400,700,800,
