Dispatches police, fire, and rescue and public works equipment and personnel usually in response to emergency situations and disseminates information to the general public and emergency services. Receives and disseminates information thru the use of computers linked to the Virginia Criminal Information Network. Employees are hired in a “trainee” capacity with promotion after one year. Fast paced environment where attention to detail and the ability to multitask are a must. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferably supplemented with some work experience with Police and/or Fire and Rescue; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must become certified to operate the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Must pass police security clearance. Must undergo psychological screening and health screening. Must pass criminal history screening. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply. THIS POSITION REQUIRES 12 HOUR ROTATING SHIFTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. Salary for position starts at ~$29,264 and increases to ~$32,339 after successful completion of the 1 year training/probationary period.
